The legend that is Si Bigg recently decided to give away his brand new EP '24 Bit Error Collection' completely free. Not only that, but the tracks come in pristine 24bit 44.1khz WAV format. Go Si.

'Major labels and the bodies that represent them, such as the BPI in the UK and the RIAA in the USA would have us believe that sharing music is destroying music and the musicians that create it. We contend that the truth is, this cartel of major record companies, distributors and publishers have been systematically fucking musicians and the people that love and buy music for about 50 years. Creating, amongst other things, huge profits for shareholders, a rigorous, brutally industrialised method of music production, Hannah Montana and an inherently average, uninspiring, mainstream music scene. This traditional industry model is so close to death that we dare not entertain it here. Instead we leave it up to you to help determine how far this E.P. travels.'

[channel027] Chris Kubex – Sounds No Longer The Same
It’s been nearly a year since Dead Channel co-conspirator and long-time Gonzo member Chris Kubex released his first full length album ‘Circuit Cities’.
Now he returns with ‘Sounds No Longer The Same’, and some may feel it’s an apt title. While retaining some of the melodious elements, which people have come to identify with his music, the dance-floor sounds of Dubstep, Ragga, Techno and Electro are more prominent this time around, and all get forced through the blender.


[channel028] Ant Orange – Acid Trax 2006-2009
Here’s a bit of a treat. Ant Orange delves into his archives and pulls out 10 tracks of 303 joyousness.
Ant’s trademark slick production and love of Roland’s little silver box are well known, but the same can’t be said of all of the gems on this release. While it includes some tracks you may have heard (‘Don’t Call Me Roland’ from ‘One For The Ladies’) it will undoubtedly contain some that you haven’t, and the opportunity to own the best of Ant’s acid ramblings for the one off special price of free, is an opportunity you really shouldn’t miss.

We’ve been trying to prize a release out of the hands of this Brummie noise terrorist for some time now, and we’re buzzing: Klat Skat & Squidgy Black is here!
Featuring the opening track ‘South Side Shoot T Kill Klart’ which has been a favourite of Mary-Anne Hobbs and been featured on her Radio 1 show, the EP tears through the sort of Breakcore, Gabba and Junglistic mayhem that your parents wouldn’t like, but we most certainly do.


[channel030] Micoland – Hidden Records
In the run up to the release of Micoland's latest LP, Modern Ruins, Dead Channel presents this retrospective compilation from the Drum Faktry archives.
Hidden Records 01-06 is a substantial collection of unreleased early works by Micoland recorded between 2001 and 2006. The album also contains tracks from his Conflux project and presents an eclectic mix of styles from IDM to Grime to Ambient Techno to Hip Hop tracks.


[channel031] Little Nobody – Robota Remixes
A joint release from Andrez Bergen’s IF? Imprint and Dead Channel which features re-workings of one of IF?’s most successful tracks ‘Robota’ by Little Nobody, featuring vocals from Toshiyuki Yasuda, one of Si Beggs favourite musicians.



[channel032] Wobble n Dubb – The Otherside EP
Here we go again, strap yourselves in for some more Wobble & Dubb mayhem, same format as last time and just as crazily good.
The Otherside Mix was first featured on Lisa Right Eye’s superlative Otherside radio show (www.theothersideradio.com) and features the now infamous dual laptop mash-up style that these boys employ to full effect here.

Our good friend Sal Volatile has been locked away in deepest darkest Midlands fusing Brummie Electro and Techno with the futuristic sounds of Dubstep and Grime to make a thoroughly pleasing cocktail.
While we wait for his maiden voyage on the Good Ship Dead Channel, we present his offering to the Deadmix series: a tasty blend of future bass music that had us jumping all over the shop.

Noisepsalm and fellow American Asymptote share this release, which comprises of an original track from each artist, and a plethora of remixes. 'How It Went' from Asymptote gets reworked by Micoland and Noisepsalm, while Noisepsalms's 'Hybernation Sickness' (taken from his Dead Channel album 'The Injured Aerm Army') gets the remix treatment from: Micoland, Kubex, Wobble & Dubb, Rhedcerulean, Asymptote and a live version by Noisepsalm himself.

Current Shennanigans

We've been on hiatus since the last set of releases from Prod, Micoland & Holly Bretton, and the LEGO Project went live over the holidays. We hope you enjoyed/are enjoying the music as much as we have.

We have been busy on other fronts though; big thanks to everyone who made the return of Gonzo at Beaverworks in Leeds such a good party last month. The night featured some great music in both rooms, a hilariously brilliant debut from The Clartbuster Morris Show, and an amazingly friendly crowd who raved until the early morning.

Dead Christmas

If the annual torrent of Pogues, McCartney, Geldof et al fills you with Bah Humbug, you'll be pleased to know we have another set of quality and 100% non-festive releases on Dead-Channel.com!

First up is The Lego Project - our local and international artists taking the same soundbank and twisting it into their own sordid little creations. What began as an experiment in remix-craft quietly turned into an interesting and diverse little album which showcases some of our artists more experimental edges (and our best efforts at Lego-punnery).

Next is a release we've been waiting for since day one. Our friendly neighbourhood jazzcat Prod drops a selection of tunes from the archives and shows us his harder-but-still-effortlessly-funky side. Fashion Sickness has had some serious rinsage at DC hq and we're sure you'll love it too. Fans of Plug, Squarepusher, and anyone of a Ninja Tune persuasion will dig this baby.

Our third release is the also-long-awaited collaboration between Micoland and Holly Bretton. A perfect combination of Mico's deep, dark beats and Holly's ethereal vocals which will sit nicely between Massive Attack and Portishead in the Chillout folder. Highly recommended for the morning after...

And finally, our last Deadmix of 2008 is a floor-shaking two-laptop dance-off from Leeds' newest noise terrorists Wobble & Dubb!

Still Alive...

All's been quite on the Dead-Channel front over the last month or so. Don't panic, we know how vital Dead-Channel updates are to your continued mental helath and well-being. We're still here for you.

[channel018] Blip!
Shadowy operators Blip! (Kubex & Dot9) have been working away on the underbelly of the Leeds electronic scene for a good few years now. This, their first release, is a collection of work recorded between 2001 and 2007.




[channel019] Gwylo & Micoland - Hale Bopp
Dirtyload Records and Dead Channel are proud to present the follow up to Gwylo & Micolands 2006 Dirtyload debut 'Reinfections'. Hale Bopp sees the duo in a more diverse mood than last time, but having no less of an impact. The heavy dub vibes are still present, but this time round the pair have stretched their musical limbs out wide and embraced a plethora of styles.


[channel020] Kubex - LS4EP
Kubex returns to Dead Channel after his acclaimed debut ‘Circuit Cities’ dropped in August. Not new material, but material that needed to see the light of day, ‘LS4EP’ is a collection of older, harder tracks from the archives.

This month we also have a new Deadmix courtesy of Gwylo, Gonzo lynchpin and the man behind Dirtyload Records. This months mix sees him doing what he does best: banging out an hour of the finest quality dance floor exploding rave tracks.

Math Lewis from Sacramento California is the man responsible for this dark gem of a release. Featues remixes from fellow Americans Interloper and Headcase, and guest vocals from none other than Math's son Phoenix.

Wobble n Dubb - Knock Down Ginger
This collaborative effort from two of Leeds finest comes packing a heavyweight punch, and in a cool, slightly unconventional format. Watch yer bassbins.

Even though the heavens opened late afternoon, it was a heart-warming to watch everyone rave in the rain until close!

Leeds Unity Day: August 16th

Saturday 16th of August is the date for one of the best local one day festivals in the country - Leeds Unity Day .

Staged on Woodhouse Moor in Hyde Park (locally known as just 'Hyde Park') this event is always rammed with quality music, stalls, events and a D.I.Y ethos that just makes you smile. The event always showcases the best of local Leeds talent, and it wouldn't be Unity Day without the mighty Iration Steppas.

Kaos Soundsystem and Gonzo have a stage at this years Unity day, and will be rinsing it out in a all-day-long-rave style with a line-up that features Dead-Channel artists: Kubex, Ant Orange, Gwylo and Micoland.

August's Fodder

We've got a lovely bunch of coconuts...

First up is our man Kubex with the hugely-anticipated 'Circuit Cities' LP. A beautifully constructed tapestry of ethereal atmospheres, warm synths, elegant melodies, intricate beats and abstract electronics; I've embarassed myself on more than one occasion trying to describe it in words. Suffice to say that this is genuinely a masterpiece. Get it!

Next up is Ant Orange with 'Plastique' - 8 zesty tracks of smooth beats, warm bass, lush melodies and gnarly funky acid goodness.

Finally, we're proud to present 'Lo-Fi' by Dimomib, an epic of electronic dub-bience all the way from Athens, Greece. With his background in dub-techno and ambient electronica, Dimomib describes 'Lo-Fi' as 'the result of an experimental game with sounds'. Atmospheric and hypnotic - definitely one for Sunday.

This month's Deadmix is a junglist rave-off courtesy of the lovely DJ Pesk. With a record collection the size of a small village and tunes that make other jungle DJ's mutter "bastard" under their breath, Pesk serves up choice cuts and blends them with ease. Rude is the word - get your gunfingers out.

Kubex: Circuit Cities Preview

The wait for Kubex's long anticipated album Circuit Cities is nearly over, as his debut long player drops on Dead Channel at the end of the month.

Calling All Artists

LEGO
If your still out the loop: Lego is a planned future project to be released on Dead Channel. The basic idea is we take a bunch of sounds and samples (supplied by you lot) then re-distribute them to you all to make tracks for the Lego compilation using only the samples and sounds supplied. We then release the sounds and samples along with the tracks on Lego, and encourage other people to make and send their tracks to us. We'll release the best ones every now and then on a new Lego compilation.
Firt things first though... we're starting to collect samples and sounds off all of you. You can email your samples using the following (READ CAREFULLY):

Format: .WAV files ONLY (16 or 24bit)
File size: 10mb MAXIMUM
Closing date for sample submission: 31st July 2008

Remember to include your artist name, and the name of the sound or sample in the FILE NAME.
